SHAMROCK SHUFFLE • RICCIOTTI ENSEMBLE

About the Ricciotti ensemble
The Ricciotti ensemble is a street symphony orchestra from The Netherlands that plays for people who are not usually exposed to live symphonic music. Since our founding year 1970 we play everywhere and for everyone: on the street, in refugee centers, on airplanes, in jails and abroad. The orchestra consists of 43 young musicians and tours three times a year. The Ricciotti looks upon music as a means to make people happy and more connected. As each person has a right to happiness, each person also has a right to music.
Tour: Ricciotti's Shamrock Shuffle
This summer, Ireland is the travel destination of the Ricciotti ensemble. During Ricciotti's Shamrock Shuffle, we bridge the gap between our through Brexit isolated European partners. The orchestra explores Ireland's famous music culture: from the world's best-selling pop artists Enya and U2 to the folk music by the Dubliners and the Pogues. The Irish viola player Séamus Hickey will be our soloist and will show the art of fiddling, in addition to classical music. He will even do a little singing! Hallways, squares and fields of the Emerald Isle will be filled with music, varying from jiggs and reels to Van Morrison and Elizabeth Maconchy. On our journey through Cork, Dublin and Galway we share our craic agus ceoil!
Soloist: Séamus Hickey
In our Shamrock Shuffle, Séamus Hickey performs as a soloist on viola together with the Ricciotti ensemble. This Irish viola player grew up in an atmosphere of Irish folk and classical music, which he eventually studied at the conservatory of Amsterdam. He has performed as guest principal with Amsterdam Sinfonietta, he has won multiple awards as a soloist and also with his Sonoro Quartet. This summer, Hickey will be traveling around together with Ricciotti! He will not only be heard in Charles Villiers Stanfords Romantic music, but also for example in modern work written by Garth Knox for viola and orchestra.
